Gundam Fix Figuration: AUGUST & SEPTEMBER

Unlike the earlier GFF Metal Composite #1001 RX78-2 which is the first GFF to be made in 1/100 scale (the scale of Master Grade model kits), the GFF Metal Composite #1002 Psycho Gundam is only 1/144. The GFF Metal Composite #1002 Psycho Gundam is not the 2nd Metal composite to be released. There is actually another GFF METAL COMPOSITE LIMITED #1001 RX78-3, which is exactly the same build as earlier with G-Fighter, except the colour scheme adopts the G3 style. but Though it came about as quite a disappointment since I was expecting to start a 1/100 GFF collection, but the thought of a 1/100 Psycho Gundam is simple insane, not to mention the price tag. In the Zeta Gundam animation, the height comparison of the Psycho Gundam to the RX-178 is approximately 2:1! Having the Psycho Gundam in 1/100 scale will mean it will be around 41cm tall, making its display an issue. Hence, the GFF Metal Composite #1002 Psycho Gundam is expected to stand at around 30cm in height! I will have to settle with that! Like the earlier, I swear by my own blood that the GFF Metal Composite is a 'Premium Collector's Series' where Disappointment is Impossible.

I have earlier mentioned about the lastest GFF being the Shin-Musha Gundam, who made its first appearance in the Playstation 3 Gundam Musou ( ガンダム無双) console game. Gundam has long been modelled after feudal Japanese warriors in SD (Super-Deformed) style as Musha (武者) Gundam units in comics and model kits. This is also the first time Katoki Hajime worked on a Musha Gundam in the GFF line-up.
No technical specification for this model is available as yet.

Though I have put a full-stop to my collection of Gundam model kits due to my hundred over backlog and lack of time to do them up, that does not stop me from getting tempted to get the upcoming MG Destiny Gundam.

September Revoltech: Super Valkyrie and Black Getter

Here is the preview to the September releases of Revoltechs by Kaiyodo.
I am sure it will make you drool all over the shop! :D

Source: amiami

No. 034 Super Valkyrie VF-1J [TV Ver.] Hikaru
The Super Valkyrie VF-1J came with the uber cool add-on Booster Pack. There is still no pictures and information of the EXTRA: Fast Pack.

No. 035 OVA Ver.Black Getter
Anything that is black is always cool! Just like the No. 020 Griffon! I have earlier pointed out the differences between No. 031 Getter1 OVA ver. and this new OVA Ver.Black Getter.

Blogging on MAC

Blogging on the MAC has always been a less preferred experience compared to a PC platform. Not so much on tackling the switch, the substitution of 'Ctrl' with 'Apple' or 'Right-click' with 'alt-option'. I am used to the difference in combination keys to activate Special Characters such as '©' and '™', which is made easier on a MAC. I daringly claim myself as a proficient hybrid-user who can switch back-and-forth easily between the two operating systems. With the 'Backspace' being replaced with a 'Delete' button, though making a less obvious difference, it is making a significant difference during blogging.

On an IE or Firefox 2, I always attach a huge block of html pertaining to linked image thumbnails, go into 'Compose mode' and just remove the spaces between thumbnails with backspaces without messing up the html for links, which is fast and easy. However, on a Safari or Firefox 2, I cannot do so without accidentally deleting a thumbnail or removing its link, which I would then need to re-paste the html code and edit the contents all over again, since the 'Undo' key command in Blogger seldom works. I would usually have to enter 'Edit Html mode' and manually process the html code. It is not something to cry about loud, but for someone like myself, who works with a lot of pictures in my post, it can be rather irritating. It is not tough for me, but just more time wasted and sometimes nerve-wrecking looking at all the codes and filenames, which I could spend mutli-tasking with other posts.
Another issue is that the posting GUI in Blogger is missing majority of the formatting buttons, when I use the Safari. More often, I would need to fire up Firefox 2. I hope that with the launch of the Safari 3 public beta, my problems will be addressed. Meanwhile, we anticipate the arrival of the Leopard to replace my crouching Tiger.

Is that a problem common to MAC or just myself? I am not certain. For all that know, it plagued me till this day. Anyone, who share the same sentiments or have a solution, please comment. Until then, Blogging on a PC platorm is still my preferred choice!

Reminder: JULY Re-Issues Revoltech

As I have mentioned earlier about the July re-issues of Revoltechs, they are available NOW!

  • No. 010 INGRAM-1
  • No. 020 GRIFFON
  • No. 004 EVA-01 TEST TYPE

If you haven't warmed up to these four re-issued Revoltechs, this is another chance to do that.

I saw a display of Revotlech No.001 Getter1 to the latest Revoltech No.031 Dix Neuf, including 2G Saber and Saber Alter. I am quite proud of it, though my collection is still shy from being complete :[. Some shops still insist that a re-issue has not taken place and tries to push out the 'rare' Ingram-1 at premium price. Some also made this opportunity to push the price of re-issued items up to S$35, which is quite a bitch amount to pay. But if you are as hardcore into Revoltechs as I am, you will find yourself in a situation with less hestitation.

Two Guardians of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum

I happened to pass by the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Musuem today and being quite attached to it, I immediately identified the addition of two stone statue of guardians styled in Japanese style at the main door. I instantly whipped out my compact camera and snapped away.

Top row: The guardian on the right-hand-side of the temple.
Bottom row: The guardian on the left-hand-side of the temple.

Black Pig at TONTOM

Yesterday, I had a gathering with a few friends whom I knew since University of Melbourne. We met at Central located at Clark Quay NEL station and decided to have our dinner at TONTOM Japanese Restaurant, before we visit The Clinic for some alcohol (which we all agree never to revisit). TONTOM is actually a restaurant operated by the same people who brought to you MEIDI-YA and Tampopo, both located in Liang Court basement. TONTOM is famous for their tonkatsu (breaded and fried cutlet) and what separates them from the rest of the japanese restaurants that serves tonkatsu, is the kurobuta (black pig)!

The top two images shows the katsu (cutlet) with egg Nabe (hotpot). The well-fried katsu is soaked in a tasty sauce and the best part is that the egg is still runny! Even the miso soup had pork in it as well, a real porky treat. Jason and I had this dish.

Shufen was the only one who ordered the kurobuta tonkatsu, (left image). We all tried a bit of the pork cutlet, and the pork is not black at all! duhhh.... Bernard ordered something that seemed like a grilled pork chop.

Fio and Jane had Chicken Curry Katsu and I had the chilli padi. The curry is not as spicy as the chilli padi, but its good enough for a curry lover, like myself. Anyway, Japanese curry aren't supposed to be spicy. I always have to 'fire it up' everytime I prepare a meal of Japanese curry for my family.

Sze Wai had seafood instead of pork (left image). We pooled our preserved radish together since no one seemed to enjoy them as much as I do.

Each meal can easily cost you around S$18 and onwards with black pig being more expensive. If you really like Katsu, I recommend the cheaper and better Romankan Yokohama, located at Takashimaya basement. I do not have a tongue of a gourmet to taste the difference between black pig meat and regular pork, but I am sure there are pork lovers who can do that and appreciate it much more than I do. Do visit TONTOM Central and give it a try!

Creepy Crawlies

A few days ago, I found a string of beads sticking on my window panel. I thought nothing of it since it looked like a wool string and I never really questioned its origin, until yesterday. I found out that it actually a string of INSECT EGGS!

Warning! The following pictures may be disturbing and raise some hair.

Revoltech No.027 EVA-02 (1997 Movie Version)

With eight Evangelion Revoltechs in my backlog of Revoltech collection, I had to take one of them and give it a photo shoot, before the next wave and thereafter. I picked the newer Revoltech No.027 EVA-02 (1997 Movie Version) from the May Release. The box of this EVA-02 is slimmer than the rest of the Revoltechs, but the contents are not trimmed at all! Packed with a core body, seven hands, a twin-blade, a 'pen-knife' dagger, dagger-release shoulder, missile pod shoulder and power cable. This newer 'breed' of Revoltechs stands at a 140mm height compared to the earlier Revoltechs. An immediate difference I spotted is the better articulation design compared to my earlier EVA-01. The EVA-02 is really cool and it takes this gallery to tell you why!

Evangelion Unit 02, built by NERV Germany, is the first Production Model Eva. It is piloted by Asuka Langley Soryu and is the first Evangelion built specifically for combat. Combining the efficient construction of Unit 01 with an arsenal of concealed weaponry, Unit 02 is a walking tank designed to counter the threat posed by the Angels, although it fails to reach the power level of Unit 01, which remains the most powerful Evangelion ever built. It can be considered the most stable Evangelion as it only goes truly "berserk" once, just before its destruction. It has achieved an unusually high sync ratio with its pilot(s), on two other occasions: once in combat against the 6th angel Gaghiel, and once under the influence of the 17th Angel. The unit is colored red and has two pairs of eyes (4 total). The head armor has two movable sections, one covering both the jaw and lower eyes and the other above the upper pair of eyes. These plates can actually shift, displaying glowing white eyes. This happens underwater during the fight with Gaghiel when Asuka needed to pry open the giant Angel's mouth. Some argue that in this state, Unit 02 has achieved "berserker" status, but fans remain divided on the subject. This also occurs when the 17th angel, Tabris, takes command of unit 02 in episode 24. As a result of being constructed by NERV Germany, and also as an accommodation for its three-quarters-German pilot, its default language setting is German. It is known to contain the part of the soul of Asuka's mother that is defined as "mother". Unit 02 features a different progressive knife from earlier Eva units as well as an internal weapon rack in the right shoulder binder which fires needle packs. Unit 02 has blue blood, which is first seen when the fourteenth Angel, Zeruel, cuts off its arms.

Unit 02 is finally destroyed in The End of Evangelion by Units 05 through 13. Asuka was still highly synchronized with Unit 02 as it was destroyed, thus practically suffering every wound (the frames after the Lance of Longinus is plunged just above the Eva's left eye show her bleeding rapidly from above her eye, as well as getting her arm sliced in half by another Lance). Later, when Shinji emerges from the GeoFront in Unit 01, he is horrified to see one of the mass produced Evas carrying Unit 02's mangled upper torso in its hands.
