牙狼 : 99.9

牙狼 <GARO> is the latest tv series that definitely deserves my praise and recommendation.
I had started collecting the merchandise prior to watching it and it had already got me hooked since then.
Unlike your usual tv series such as Masked Rider 555 and even Gansazers/Justirisers, GARO still retains your usual cute boys and sweet girl leads. There are masked heroes and ugly monsters, however, GARO is not about cosplaying superheroes in tight latex suits. The metamorphosis cut-scenes from GARO have always left me awed by the blend of CG and real-live action. GARO has a gothic theme potrayed in atypical Japanese style, which definitely got me all reved up!
Motion speaks louder than words.
We have 99.9 seconds to play!

Photography: 23rd October 2006

I had my company holiday yesterday.
So I decided that I should take this opportunity to visit the city to have lunch at Amoy Street and take some random-themed photograhs.
The ten minute wait for my fish soup was definitely worth my $5.
I haven't tasted such good fish soup, not even so far my favourite ex-Bianco Court fish soup.
Two thumbs up!
Most importantly the photographs.

Review: Uno Beef House

We have finally made it try out the beef steaks at Uno Beef House.
The Uno Beef House is a coffee shop located in the corner of a row of shops on the ground floor of the old Block 52.
It stands out from the rest of the shops and from all the upgrading work with a huge signboard.
Let's get on with the proper!

Immediately after ordering, we are served with garlic toasts and the cutlery. It is famous for its crazy queue. Hence, garlic toasts starters will suppress the overflowing stomach juices. I believe that the toasts were prepared in bulk earlier, but surprisingly, after sometime, they still retained the crisp.

I had a medium Black Pepper Beef Sirloin Steak - $8.
Served on a bull-shaped hotplate, the sauce was sizzling mad.
The meat was done right to my taste, done on the outside, bloody in the mid-section.
The right proportion of juicy tender-sweet meat and fat made it a good chew.
The black pepper gravy with the blood from the meat gave a tangy taste, which was different from neXus's.

neXus had medium done Black Pepper Beef Tenderloin Steak - $10
They have three steak meals, the last one is Black Pepper Beef Ribeye Steak - $9. Since neXus claimed that the walk here was a tough one, he shall have the most expensive one (something not very common from him).
The medium done steak had no blood in the core. But when chewed, the meat was right tender and juicy. The meat absorbed the black pepper taste and does not have the tangy taste as mine. There was also no fat in the huge slab of tenderloin, definitely the cut for the health conscious (not neXus though).

The side that made them famous is the fried mashed potato ball. So far, the one and only western food with such a potato side. To all, kantang lovers, nothing to cry about but something worth experiencing.

Shroom Pot

I decided that a detox is necessary,
so I whipped up this healthy detox lunch dish.
I call it the Shroom Pot.
Sounds like some drugs or something, trust me, its 100% healthy.
No flavouring and oil.
This dish is made from blanched Swiss Browns, Portobellos (my favourites) and Dou Miao.
The natural taste of the funghi and greens is fantastic!
You really should try it!
Just remember to wash your shrooms thoroughly!

I reckon that white buttons will go better than swiss browns.

Ang Mo Kio Integrated Mall

Who say there is only Vivo City to cry about!?
Ang Mo Kio will be having its integrated mall/interchange soon.
The construction that took aeons from demolition to ground-breaking work (years), has finally taken shape after some months.
We suspect that has something to do with the rise of our ruler who happen to run this district.
Nevertheless, the people can benefit from it soon!

You've Got Mail! The Mind Gym

Look at what just came in the mail?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I had auctioned this book via an online auction.
Though I had auctioned 'Wake your mind up' by The Mind Gym, they had sent me a 50c cheaper book 'Give me time'.
Nevertheless, I paid almost 50% the retail price for this book.

Review: Spot Kitchen

I have earlier mentioned about doing a review of Spot Kitchen, a fast-food joint located admist my residential vicinity.
I have already visited it with my food scout buddy a couple of days back.
We had intended to use the coupons on the flyer (as shown in earlier scan)
In the end, the sales girl collected the whole flyer from us.
But then again, they had stacks of them at the counter for pick-up.
So who needs them anyway!?

We order 2 combo meals. MOO and Walking Burger Sets. Each set comes with a choice of the fountain drinks (Blackcurrent or Lime), a basket of fries and the burger.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Walking Burger is a regular chicken patty sandwich with a slice of cheddar cheese and mayonnaise salad. The patty was quite oily and the bread content is low, making the bun very soft and fluffy (like that of confectionary buns). The meat taste normal and is just like regular frozen patty fried directly without thaw.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The MOO Burger is similar except with a beef patty. We start to wonder where is the lettuce, which was clearly shown in the display?
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The basket of fries seem like a small portion, but it sure filled us up despite the small burger.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Overall, I give Spot Kitchen a 6 out of 10. They could have done better. Nevertheless, I give them the benefit of the doubt, since it was almost closing time and we ordered discounted promo meals. I'm sure they would have served better food, if we had ordered regular main meals. I should still suggest going down there again to try their regular menu and giving another rate, but not so soon.

Original Hock Lam Street Beef Kway Teow

The Original Hock Lam Street Beef Kway Teow is a famous beef kway teow noodle stall that had a history of its own. It had moved to China Street for sometime. The old boss can still be seen in the shop everyday (as if I was there everday!). His daughter was also featured in the papers for giving up her high-paying job to sell beef noodles with her dad. Hence, the beef noodles must be really fantastic!

Read on...

The kway teow (thick and flat rice noodle) can be eaten along with variety of beef meat, dry or soup style. I had the dry style and the noodle came drenched in thick heavy gravy topped with chinese parsley and peanut dust.

The beef broth was clear, tasty and not too salty.

I should do a review of it sometime with my makan buddy.
What say you, brudder?

Crossbone X1 and Blue Duel Gundam

As expected, the orders came in on Friday, one day after the sale.
I had skipped my visit on Saturday and decided that I should probably collect them while visiting CSC.
However, I realised that I was in the area again because I wanted to take CT8 home.
So I might as well collect them on Saturday and probably skip my CSC visit today.
Damn! I seldom miss a Sunday visit!

Take a look into my bag and see what I've got.
I had initially ordered 2x MG Crossbone X1 Ver.Ka, 2x HG Blu Duel Gundam and 1x HG Ginn Type Insurgent.
Des collected his share (Blu Duel and Ginn Type Insurgent).
I have also done up an OOB review of the MG Crossbone X1 (read on to learn more)

Crossbone X1 Ver.Ka

I compiled this OOB review for nexus to start drooling. The box art is standard Katoki Hajime style, following the earlier RX-78 Ver.Ka, Ball Ver.Ka and Wing Zero Custom Ver.Ka.

Finally, the OOB! To my surprise and immense shock, there is no soft lid inside the box, a feature of MG kits! Both boxes were like that.

It comes with a complete essential decal set, Ver.Ka style.

The unique feature of all new MG kits is the 'PC-less' system. Say goodbye to weak aged joints.

I would say, "how can the Crossbone go without its cloak?" Bandai have faithfullly included a cloak made of a unique synthetic material.

YouTube: Coffee Talk and Hawker Wok featuring Ericia and Ezan Lee

Ask me what is great about Singapore?
The first thing that comes to my mind, is the FOOD!
The unique blend of cultures in our community makes us 'Uniquely Singapore'.
Hence, the food varieties are also a wide-spread.
You can also say that Singaporeans just love to eat-eat-eat!
No wonder the television programmes are making more and more Food Review programmes.
Coffee Talk and Hawker Wok hosted by Fiona Xie.
Both the show and the host are well-loved.

This episode, Ericia and Ezan Lee are invited to recommend a few of their favourite food haunts.
Of course, together Fiona, this episode is a must watch (guys, drool!).

YouTube: 綜藝大哥大 - 張菲

綜藝大哥大 is a Taiwan variety programme hosted by 張菲. This programme is about the usual Taiwan-style humour with lots of celebrities to watch and pretty cute girls to see.
Though lately I have not been really a fanatic of Taiwan variety shows, but while I was channel surfing, last night's 綜藝大哥大 was definitely an interesting and bootylicious episode.
This upload specially goes out to all the lonely guys out there.

Daiku Maryu Gaiking

An OOB review as requested by Desmond.
GX-05R Soul of Chogokin: Daiku Maryu Gaiking

The immediate out of box impression is fantastic. A styrofoam crate covered with a fitting cardboard. Taped to the side of the box is a small bag carrying the instruction manuals. Opening the lid reveals two chambers. One houses the dinosaur main body(pardon my terminology since I wasn't a Gaiklng fan) while the other houses the remaining parts.

The main body of the dinosaur is a solid metal, definitely feels good in the hands.
The mild coat of oil suggests its mint condition.

The rest of the parts of the dinosaur are plastic.

A two-tier clear tray slides out from the white sleeve. The trays houses the metallic parts of the Gaiking.

Many thanks to him for giving me the opportunity to do this review.
