"Never Forget. Never Forgive."

Winner of Golden Globe Awards for "Best Picture" and "Best Actor - Johnny Depp"

"Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" is a musical/thriller starring Johnny Depp directed by Tim Burton. Always a fanboy of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, how can I possibly miss out on another of their many collaborative works! I was anticipating it for quite a while and really enjoyed my preview of this movie. Now I can relive all the music and blood in the comfort of my home theatre!

Brief Sypnopsis
"Sweeney Todd" is a fictional villain appearing in various English language works starting in the mid-19th century as a barber and an early example of a fictional serial killer. His weapon of choice is a straight razor, with which he cuts his victims' throats. In some versions of the story Mrs. Lovett, who is variously his lover, friend, and/or partner in crime, bakes the corpses of his victims into meat pies, and sells them. He is also assisted by an unwitting apprentice lad named Tobias Ragg, who later aids in unmasking his crimes.

TIMBUK2: Classic Messenger (S)

Classic Messenger Bag
Promo. Price: S$89 (U.P.: S$139)

About "TIMBUK2"
"Timbuk2" is a San Francisco-based company that started in 1989. "Timbuk2" specializes in making both ready-made and custom-made messenger bags. "Timbuk2" messenger bags are constructed from high-quality waterproof ballistic nylon and cordura. It is now owned by the equity firm "VMG Equity Partners".
"Timbuk2" was founded Rob Honeycutt, former bike messenger. The company was originally named "Scumbags" before being branded as "Timbuk2" in 1990. The name was said to be inspired by an American rock band "

The Classic Messenger (S)

The Finer Details
The "Timbuk2" trademark is the 'spiral logo' as well as the 'reflective tail straps'. The exterior of the bag is made with high quality Cordura (a nylon fabric from DuPont). The high thread count makes the surface of the bag waterproof. The main flap with three distinctive panels (usually in multi-coloured), is secured with two strips of velcro as well as two plastic clips. The reflective tail straps are secured to another set of clips. The rear bottom of the bag has two metal D-rings for fixing the cross-strap. The cross-strap is intended for securing the bag to the body while 'riding the bicycle or running for bus'. The interior of the bag is lined with a thick waterproof inner lining. A cable tie secures the triangular yellow hook which is intended for hanging the bag on the proprietary rack in retail outlets. Some retailers will cut it away, but most users will keep the hook as another iconic feature of "Timbuk2" bags. The Cam Buckle adjusts the length of the strap to match the height of the user.

The Compartments
There are many compartments (13) in this deceivingly small messenger bag.
(1) Main compartment accomodating an A4 folder, (2) zipper pocket, (3) business card clear pocket, (4) pocket, (5) wide pen pocket, (6) pen pocket, (7) pen pocket, (8) fleece-lined cellphone pocket, (9) large zipper pocket, (10) pocket, (11) pocket, (12) zipper pocket, (13) pocket.
Inside pocket #9, there is a key hook attached to a red strap (A).

The Accessories
The cross-strap is included with the Classic Messenger bag. The shoulder padding needs to purchase separately at around S$23. I managed to get it free with my bag.

Wear It!
"Timbuk2" Classic Messenger bags are made to be worn. Though there are different designs with multi-colored tri-panels, solid black will be suited for both casual and formal attires. Furthermore, black is alway cool!
Many thanks to 'cam-whoring' Mr.MBB for flaunting this bag.

The Moves
No product shoot is complete without a few 'kungfu panda' moves!
Thanks again to Mr. MBB for his 'Ong-bak-ish' stunts and Mr. Laurens Pang for photography.

I initially do not have the intention to get myself a "TIMBUK2" Classic Messenger bag as it was already a very common sight in the streets. However, when this special promotional price came about, I got myself tempted. Furthermore, it is the right size that I had been wanting, good for day-to-day use. When I put it on, I felt that it was made for me. When I felt its texture, I was immediately sold by its quality. "TIMBUK2" bags are just too cool to be missed! Together with the free shoulder padding that I got, I believe it is an unbeatable deal to start the GSS!
Finally, thanks to Fio for buying this bag as a gift for me. Fio has been great sponsoring all my cool bags!

If you haven't gotten a "TIMBUK2" bag, grab one today and join the trendy cool league!

EATZ: Ananda Bhavan Vegetarian Restaurant

Ananda Bhavan Vegetarian Restaurant
No.58 Serangoon Road
Singapore 217964
Tel.: 6297 9522
Operating hours: 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Being featured on "Lonely Planet", I will not be surprised to see tourists patronizing "Ananda Bhavan Vegetarian Restaurant". While many locals do not really appreciate a meal of Indian food without the meat curries, vegetarianism is in fact a very common part of the Indian diet. It is both for religious and health purposes. According to my colleague from India who follows a strict vegetarian diet, he told me that the religious aspect of vegetarianism is based on the god that is being worship on the day of the week. Now I understand why some of Indian friends abstain meat on Fridays. Nevertheless, I respect the importance of vegetarianism as well as the healthy aspect of it. Most importantly, vegetarian meals can be very tasty as well, especially from the 'master of spices'! The Indian vegetarian meals can taste incredibly good!
"Ananda Bhavan Vegetarian Restaurant" is one of my favourite restaurant to find very good Indian vegetarian food.

Two pieces of healthy chappathi served with vegetarian sauces. I particularly love the chick pea sauce.

Vegetarian Thali Rice Set
This rice set is served with a variety of sauces, sweet soup, curd, vegetarian mutton, papadums and vadai. They have a special rice set that is cooked in olive oil as well.

Kashmiri Naan
Kashmiri naan is a special naan as it includes sweet dried fruits, such that this can be eaten without any sauces.

If you are not used to taking Indian vegetarian diets, "Ananda Bhavan Vegetarian Restaurant" is going to change your opinion. The sauces that are served with the rice set or breads are all very tasty. Though I cannot get used to some of the spices used in some Indian sauces, but I had no qualms about finishing the sauces and soups that came with my thali rice set. The chappathi and kashmiri naan are healthy substitutes for prata, and I am really starting to love chappathi. A good cup of sweet lassi should make this healthy meal complete. The prices are reasonable with no service taxes and GST charges.

EATZ: Ji De Chi (记得吃) Desserts

(Ji De Chi)
8, Liang Seah Street #01-03
(or 46, Upper Cross Street #01-02 )
Tue-Sun: 10.30am - 10pm (Closed on Mondays)
There is hardly a need for introduction of this very popular traditional Chinese dessert house. "Ji De Chi" is one of the better stalls that serves a good bowl of "Black Sesame Paste", "Mango Pomelo" or "Hashima" (Frog's fallopian tube). Apart from a wide range of traditional desserts in hot and cold to choose from, Ji De Chi also serves traditional Chinese kuehs.

Water-Chestnut with Sago

Small crunchy bits of sweet water-chestnut with sago and fluffy egg served chilled.

Water-Chestnut with Herbal Jelly

Similar to the water-chestnut with sago, this dessert comes with herbal jelly (龟苓膏) served chilled.

Pumpkin, Carrot and Yam cake (kueh)
S$1.50 each

Traditional savoury steamed kuehs with real chunks of soft pumpkin (golden), white radish (white) and yam (purple), topped with white sesame and fried shallots.

There has been an increasing number of traditional Chinese desserts stalls sprouting up in the Chinatown area. "Ji De Chi" (记得吃) is one of the popular stalls that had a decent league of foodie fans. The stall that I visited is along Liang Seah Street (opposite Bugis Junction), where the famous "Ah Chew Desserts" (阿秋甜品) is located as well. Despite the stiff competition, both dessert stalls thrive as Singaporeans yearn for a taste of 'grandma's home-made' desserts.
The desserts at "Ji De Chi" are reasonably priced and benchmarked against competitors. So it all boils down to taste. I have tried both dessert stalls along Liang Seah Street and "Ji De Chi" definitely deserves two thumbs up. The desserts served are suitable for weight-watchers and the health-conscious. So anyone can just indulge without feeling any sin.
