Azabu Sabo Japanese Restaurant

Had dinner at the famous Japanese Restaurant that is the first in Singapore to serve up Hokkaido Ice Cream, Azabu Sabo. We order a Baked Mushroom in Butter and Sabo Style Seafood Salad for starters, Katsu Bento and Cold Ramen Noodle with Seafood in Sesame Mayonnaise for main.

The Baked Mushroom in Butter is basically shittake and golden mushrooms in butter and garlic sauce baked inside a simple aluminium foil basket. Nothing too fantastic about the taste.

Sabo Style Seafood Salad (single) consists of a leaf of lettuce, couple of cubes of fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, two fresh shrimps, two slices of squid, one mini scallop and mayo-based sauce. Not the best seafood salad around.

Katsu Bento is new on the menu. The katsu was as typically fried over egg and sauteed onions, but when served, the crisp was absent. The rice tasted rather plain. The sides of the Bento are purely 'decorative' while the miso tasted at least decent.

Cold Ramen Noodle with Seafood in Sesame Mayonnaise seems like something unique, but not really hard to prepare. I suggest boiling a pack of instant noodle, rinse in water when cooked and chill the noodle. Prepare the necessary garnishings (almond slices and greens) and few pieces of seafood while the chilling takes place. When the noodle is chilled, serve it with the garnishings. Drown with a generous serving of sesame oil and mayonnaise and it is done! Can you imagine its taste already?

In conclusion
, despite their popularity for their desserts, I gave up the thought of ordering since I was already disappointed by their food even before consumption. The food is definitely not the best medium-price-range japanese food around. I have had better and I recommend trying MOF, which is also located in Marina Square. The desserts and Hokkaido Ice Cream may be fantastic, but their food are definitely not the best. I would anytime take the amount I'd spent and enjoy a better meal at MOF. Disappointed!
