Japan Trip 2010: KYOTO

Japan Trip 2010: KYOTO
This is the 3rd leg of our visit to Japan.
Earlier on, we visited TOKYO and the scenic TAKAYAMA.
This is KYOTO, another popular tourist visited city.

Getting around Kyoto is not just about bus rides, sometimes there could be some river-crossing!

Kyoto is a beautiful city with a fusion of modern and historical architecture.
Kyoto is indeed a gem of the far east.

You can choose to stay in a traditional Ryokan.

Kyoto Tower

Opposite the Kyoto Tower is the central bus interchange.
Remember that Kyoto buses are boarded from the rear door and exit via the front.
Pay a flat rate of 220 yen per ride, however, I recommend getting the day-pass which costs only 500 yen.
You may purchase the day-passes from the bus driver before you alight.

Getting to Kyoto from other places by JR.
The main and only JR Station in Kyoto.
Kyoto Station is a magnificent structure to appreciate.

Food in Kyoto!
Yes! KFC!

Temple-hopping in Kyoto is the main highlight of Kyoto.
The first stop will definitely have to be the bamboo forest at Arashiyama, followed by a ride on the Romantic Train.

Remember to visit Fushimi Inari, or the Fox Shrine, where part of the Memoirs of the Geisha was filmed.
Experience the spectacular red gates that line the slopes.
Challenge yourself to complete the walk up the hill!

In Kyoto, Gion is the area where you can actually catch a glimpse of Geishas.

The best Okonomiyaki in Kyoto is at Mr. Young Men!

Remember to drop by the market street in Kyoto to get some local snacks and food.
