Look what I have had! Roast Meat Rice @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza

I seldom take Chicken rice or roasted meat (烧腊) at the hawker centres, unless they are really good or seems really good to try and then review. The reason is because this simple and common dish can be found in almost any hawker centre and sometimes even in replicates, but to find a good one that stands out among the rest, is not easy. I was at Tanjong Pagar Plaza and somehow this simple looking stall with a loud name caught my eye, "Old Tiong Bahru Roast Specialist". We all know that Tiong Bahru has always been a place for 'hawker legends'. I put my belief in that and decide to give this 烧腊 stall a shot! Instead of ordering the usual roasted chicken or duck rice, I had the char siew and roasted pork rice, which I was craving.

A mixture of both meat is more expensive than the normal chicken rice that costs only S$2.50. I ordered the S$3.50 (small). The portion is reasonable for that price. They are generous on the roasted meat and sauce (optional; F.O.C.). This dish comes with a clear and light soup.

Verdict
The sauce is a tad sweet and I would prefer it would be slightly mellow. The char siew is properly burnt and not just stewed in red char siew sauce. The roasted pork is burnt right, such that the meat is tender and juicy while the skin crunches crispy with every bite! Old Tiong Bahru Roast Specialist at Tanjong Pagar Plaza is worth a try, but need to go easy on the sauce.
