Look what I have bought! Harry Potter (R6) DVD-9 & JAY CHOU Vol.8

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix™
哈利波特 与 凤凰社™

S$9.90 (Visma)
2-Disc Version
R6 DVD-9

Being a big fan of the books, I stopped at Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix™ as it was getting rather 'insanely' thick. Having watched and collected every episode of Harry Potter in the theatres and DVD, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix™ is one that I did not watch in the theatres. I was so tempted to get the R3 DVD during release, but patience pays off when I managed to score the 2-disc version at the best price ever, as anticipated.

would like to know what the different R rating and DVD numbers mean
WILLIAM TAN said…
R refers to the region.
R3 means Region 3 which is Asia including Singapore.
R6 is for China.
R4 is for Australia.
R1 is for US.
These region codes are for protection of content. But now with all standalone DVD players being multi code, there is no issue which region it can play. But for PC DVD drives, there will be an issue. Most DVD drives are NOT REGION-FREE or MULTI-CODE, hence they can only play ONE REGION. But they are flexible such that you can change the region but unfortunately for 6 times only before the last change becomes permanent. For example you change it to region 6, you can watch R6 DVDs but cannot watch R3.

For more info on DVD nomenclature,
they just refer to capacity. No need to know too much. But if you are interested. It is explained in "Transformers" post.

R6 is S$9.90 for dual disc,
while R3 is S$30.90 for the same.
what do you think?
but do note that R6 version of Harry Potter OOTP has got NO ENGLISH Subtitles, but the language of conversations are in original English dubbing.
If you are no sucker for English subs like me, you can do with the R6.

didn't realise i wrote in as anonymous in previous comment, haha. Yes, i saw the $30.90 Harry Potter dvd in the stores ... thought it was a bit exp so didn't get it. Didn't know there's such a huge diff in price, maybe should just go for the R6 then, anyway have already seen the movie.
