Raffles Hotel Snow-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle & Ganache

I have earlier mentioned that I have always wanted to try the 'gourmet' mooncakes from Raffles Hotel. Thanks to our regular courier company who gifted us with a box of these goodies! While the department got the "Mini Snow-skin mooncake with Mocha Truffle", we got their famous "Mini Snow-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle and Ganache". We do know that snow-skin mooncakes are sinful from the heavy sugar content, but who can ever resist such delectable that always get sold out even before the actual Mid-Autumn Festival. So how does it fare? Read on.

Eight Mini Snow-Skin Mooncakes with Champagne Truffle & Ganache presented in a classical tin box with classic early Shanghai-style artwork print. A box of eight costs S$45.
Upon opening the box, a strong sweet fragrance of the snow-skin immediately filled the room. The overall appearance of snow-skin mooncake is nothing too impressive, just regular translucent white skin coated with some icing. I picked up one whole piece and took a bite. My teeth sank easily into the sweet snow-skin and lotus paste. However, there was a slightly tougher 'yolk' in the middle. I bited harder and the shell of the 'york' cracked and the filling within the 'yok' started to ooze out. The 'yolk' is actually a white chocolate ball filled with champagne truffle & ganache. Ganache is actually a blend of chocolate made by mixing boiling milk with bitter coco; sometimes further enhanced by addition of liquor.

The Mini Snow-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle & Ganache is definitely a premium delectable not to be missed! I can give up on chocolate anytime after trying this heavenly dessert. If there is only one snow-skin mooncake you can ever have in a lifetime, it will have to be the Mini Snow-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle & Ganache! If you can still get it at the hotel or mooncake fairs, do it! If not, you will have to wait for a year!
