Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro is the lastest DSLR from Fujifilm collaboration with Nikon. It is also the successor to the earlier FinePix S3 Pro. You can say that this is the dream DSLR for Fujifilm supporters who wants the versatility of a broad lenses range and Nikon supporters who yearns for the Super CCD SR that made Fujifilm sensor.

Image processing and quality

  • Real Photo Technology Pro, which combines the Super CCD SR Pro and the RP (Real Photo) Processor Pro, allows for greater dynamic range with smoother tonality from highlight to shadow
  • The improved Super CCD SR Pro features an optimised low-pass filter to reduce noise and minimise moirĂ©, which enables photographers to take images at even higher sensitivities (ISO 100 to ISO 3200) with visibly reduced noise

Color control and Film Simulation

  • There are six preset ranges between 100% and 400%.
  • For improved reproduction of natural skin tones, three new variations of the original film simulation mode (F1) have been added (five modes in total)

Other camera functions and features

  • It supports Nikon F-mount compatibility for all functionality with all Nikkor AF-D/G and the latest AF-S optics.
  • RAW+ jpeg (4,256 x 2,848 pixels, 3,024 x 2,016 pixels, 2,304 x 1,536 pixels) dual-save mode
  • Robust lightweight magnesium-alloy body with moisture- and dust-proof seals
  • Durable shutter unit stands up to approximately 100,000 cycles
  • Adoption of high-precision i-TTL flash control
  • 11-point AF sensor with faster autofocusing than the FinePix S3 Pro
  • Supports 1/3, 1/2, and 1 stop lens aperture control
  • Shutter speed 30 sec. to 1/8000 sec, maximum flash sync speed of 1/250 sec.
  • 3 levels of custom function locking with password protection

More In-Depth Details about FinePix S5 Pro
(content shamelessly adapted from Fujifilm Official Site)

Sensor
The ultimate goal in development of Fujifilm's D-SLR cameras has been to maximise image quality through constant R & D into the Company's proprietary sensors. With the introduction six years ago of the acclaimed Super CCD, Fujifilm has moved away from increasing the pixel density in favour of image quality developments that increase the overall performance of the sensor.
The FinePix S5 Pro will see the refinement of a winning formula – Fujifilm's Super CCD SR II will be updated to the new Super CCD SR Pro. Using a unique layout of twelve million paired photodiodes (6.17 million larger 'S' photodiodes for main image information, combined with 6.17 million smaller 'R' photodiodes for bright area information), the S5 Pro will deliver improvements in noise, dynamic range, colour and tonality. Further improving the capability of the sensor, a new, improved low-pass filter will ensure that moirĂ© and noise are kept to an absolute minimum.
Fuji technicians believe improvements in these key areas will be of more true value to professional photographers – the challenge is quality of information, not quantity of information.

Image Quality
The redesigned Super CCD SR Pro sensor will be at the centre of the camera's performance. However, the new Real Photo Processor Pro will ensure that the information is handled in such a way to produce images that are beautifully vibrant, with colour recorded as the human eye sees it. The processor's two stages of noise reduction will deliver an impeccably clean image, and also permit light sensitivity up to ISO 3200 whilst achieving sharp, low-noise images. A new dark noise reduction process, subtracting the residual, ambient noise on the sensor from the actual exposure, helps the camera produce smooth, clean images even when long shutter speeds are used.

Dynamic Range
The FinePix S5 Pro will also afford the user much greater control over the unique image parameters that its technology provides. Six stepped dynamic range settings between 100% (normal dynamic range) and 400% (dynamic range expanded by two stops), will enable the photographer to achieve exactly the tonal feel to their images that they want. In addition, three distinct settings for the 'negative film' preset option will further enhance the customisable nature of the camera, giving portrait photographers precisely the 'look' that they wish to create.

D-TTL Metering
D-TTL Flash Exposure Metering System: photographers can take advantage of a host of creative options, and achieve outstanding results with all Nikon compatible Speedlights.

Face Detection (fd) Technology
At the push of a button, the FinePix S5 Pro's Face Detection Technology detects up to ten faces in a scene immediately after each image is captured. Photographers can zoom in and confirm facial detail, whether eyes are open or closed, focus and exposure on the FinePix S5 Pro's LCD monitor.

Hello fellow bloggers, here is an excerpt from an article I found to be quite interesting:

In January 2007 Olympus released a new model, the SP-55OUZ, which seems to be the prodigy of this line, being a lot more performing than the previous model, the SP-51OUZ. The main characteristics of this camera are the image stabilization, 7MP resolution, and the 18x optical zoom range. The Zoom market became quite competitive and the model in discussion competes with other high quality models, such as Sony H5 or Panasonic FZ8.

This new Olympus camera is supported with Olympus Master software and AA batteries, has internal memory and xD picture card slot, over 20 scene modes, 25 language options, RAW and exposure modes, super macro mode, and 7.1 Megapixels. The SP-55OUZ model is not a small camera so some may not prefer it because of this, but taking into consideration its qualities, the size is not at all an inconvenient. It is similar in many ways to the Canon EOS 1Ds digital camera

Another great digital camera is the new FinePix S4700 from Fujifilm. This model is the optimized version of the FinePix S4600 model, which was voted last year as the European Zoom camera of 2006 by the most important European association of electronics consumers. The new model is compact and lightweight, has 10x optical zoom lens, Fujifilm Intelligent Flash system, having several scene selections. Its menu system is highly improved and it is ideal to carry with you anywhere, since it can be easily operated with one hand.

The most significant changes FinePix S4700 has over its predecessor are the ergonomic design, reduced proportions, improved ISO sensitivity up to 1600, new flash modes and a 7.1 Megapixel CCD sensor.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-g1 is another great digital camera recently released on the electronics market. The G1 model, in particular, is Sony's first wireless digital camera, which has 2.0GB of internal memory, 6 megapixel and a 3.5 inch LCD with a 921,000 pixels resolution screen – similar stats to the Canon PowerShot S50. This model has the ability of sending photos wireless to other digital enabled devices such as laptops, palms, PCs or cameras. Reviewers say that Sony G1 model is the perfect take away digital camera, since its internal memory is pretty generous.

Other cameras you might want to have a look at are these: Canon PowerShot S2 IS, Canon PowerShot Pro 1, Canon PowerShot S300, Fuji Film FinePix E550, FinePix F601 Zoom and Canon EOS 20D.

Hope you found this to be a good read,

Michael
