Was at Chinatown again yesterday,
since it was raining,
I decided that having a snack at Tong Heng will be a good choice to avoid the rain.

They carry a wide variety of traditonal chinese pastries. They include lotus seed paste sweet pastries to salted savoury pastries filled with minced meat in heavy gravy. They also have a side counter that sells pastes like white sesame and almond etc.

The delicious white sesame paste is simply fantastic and the texture is just right, not too thick and not too watery.

The best snack they serve is the egg tart. The egg tart smells great even before you take the first bite. After taking a bite, the egg custard flows like a thick syrup in your mouth while the rest maintains its integrity in the tart. You can also see from the picture below, that the top layer have a darker yellow colour due to the baking while the core of the egg custard remains runny.

Another savoury pastry is the lotus seed traditional shortbread with icing and a small little dried fruit (which I believe to be apricot) in the centre.
