ZZ Gundam demystified...

Though not as popular as the Zeta Gundam,
the Double Zeta Gundam or ZZ Gundam did have a fair share of fame and glory.
The ZZ Gundam was actually released under MG thrice.
They are the ZZ Gundam, ZZ Gundam Full Armour and FAZZ.
So what's the difference?
Let's get demystified!

ZZ Gundam

Originated in the ZZ Gundam series. The ZZ Gundam was delivered to the Argama of AEUG after the Gryps Conflict (in Z Gundam Series). The ZZ Gundam was an upgraded version of the Zeta Gundam after the Zeta Gundam was badly damaged during the Gryps conflict. The ZZ Gundam was piloted by lead character, Judau Ashta, a newtype. Prior to piloting the ZZ Gundam, he piloted the Zeta Gundam after he joined Argama and when Camille Vidan left the ship to recuperate from his psychological trauma.

The difference between the ZZ Gundam and the Zeta is that instead of being a transformable mobile suit, it adopted the docking system like that of the RX. The 3 components of the ZZ Gundam includes the Core-Top (upper body region), Core-Fighter (torso and main-pilot) and Core-Base (Limb region). Each component is usually piloted by a separate pilots while the core-fighter is usually by Judau who will eventually control the MS after transformation.

Post-docking of the 3 core components, the ZZ Gundam can transform into its MS state. During its MS state, the ZZ Gundam can detach itself under the skilful piloting by Judau while maintaining its MS state. For example, during one crucial battle against the Haman Karn piloting a Qubeley, the Judau detaches itself in the core-fighter, while the top and bottom of the ZZ Gundam remains hidden behind a asteroid as a decoy. Haman got taken in by the decoy and was eventually ambushed by Judau's flanking core-fighter.

ZZ Gundam Full Armour

Nearing the end of the ZZ Gundam series, the Near Argama crew managed to upgrade the ZZ Gundam to the ZZ Gundam Full Armour Mobile Suit. Still the same MS, but with upgraded armour that can withstand beam lasers for sometime which the ZZ Gundam isn't capable of. Judau piloted the ZZ Gundam Full Armour during the conflict between Haman Khan of Neo Zeon and Glemy Toto of Axis, trying to stop the battle.

The ZZ Gundam despite looking more bulky than the Zeta Gundam, it has much more speed and firepower compared to the latter. However, the main advantage of the Zeta Gundam over the double ZZ is still the mobile armour mode (Wave Rider) which is a light-weight craft/mecha that can take on missions that require dexterity. The most powerful weapon of the ZZ Gundam is the high intensity beam that is fired from the head crest (between the horn-fins). That explains why its got that big red piece on the head crest.

FAZZ (Sentinel)
FAZZ is actually the abbreviation of Full Armour Double Zeta Gundam. The only difference is that the color scheme is that of the Sentinels. So what about Sentinels? Read upcoming post about Sentinels.
